She had sickle cell anemia and passed away due to health complications.
I had never experienced any loss like that before then. I didnât know at the time, but my way of coping was through writing letters to her (see image below).
I wrote about how I imagined her in Jannah and how all I wanted was to join her one day. I hadnât done much at the time to increase my chances of getting to Jannah.
Her death was the wake up call I needed to fix my relationship with the Qurâan, with Allah, and with myself.
With this new mission in one hand and memories of my Hauwa in the other, I wanted to start by memorizing the Qurâan! I found a Qurâan institute that was over an hour away from me via public transport đ¤Ż... But I had a mission, right? I was ready to make the small sacrifices.
I went to my first memorization class and my teacher so patiently listened to me and advised me to go back to basics. Basics? I knew the basics though! I went to âislamiyyaâ as a child and I memorized âAmma to Naasâ! What basics? đđ¤
Well, it turned out I was mis-pronouncing most of it.
My new Qurâan journey started with unlearning and relearning my Alif Ba Ta. I have spent the past 10 years learning to read, recite, understand, memorize, and teach the Quran.
I now invite others to join me on the most beautiful journey so we can continue this mission together - to learn the Qurâan, to improve our relationship with Allah, and ultimately, to earn His pleasure and Jannah by His mercy - where thereâs no loss, no separation, and only words of peace: âSalaamun âalaikumâ
Surah Zumar, 73: âAnd those who kept their duty to their Lord will be led to Paradise in groups, till, when they reach it, and its gates will be opened (before their arrival for their reception) and its keepers will say: Salamun 'Alaikum (peace be upon you)! You have done well, so enter here to abide therein."
